Tasa with Mark Feldman (Ontario / USA)
Toronto-based Tasa is a renowned Canadian ensemble in the field of world music. Tabla player Ravi Naimpally formed the group in 1999 to play original repertoire inspired by the music of India as it relates to music from other parts of the world. Each member of Tasa is accomplished in several musical fields, including world music, jazz, popular music, film music, and theatre.
For this performance, they will be joined by American violinist Mark Feldman, whose varied career has included extensive work with composers like John Zorn, composition commissions from the Kronos Quartet, hundreds of jazz recordings as a sideman or soloist, and a formative stint as a studio musician in Nashville. Feldman possesses the rare capacity to completely transform almost any musical situation with his exceptional musicality.
