Pulses by Jesse Stewart

Pulses (2011) by Jesse stewart is an installation/performance that features a series of water-filled intravenous bags positioned above a specially-designed clear drum set. The I.V. bags release droplets of water at different rates resulting in a series of pulses as the water droplets strike the drums and cymbals.

Rainforest: Guelph by David Tudor, realized by Ben Grossman

Rainforest: Guelph is a collaborative reinterpretation of David Tudor's work from the 1970s using transducers and pickups attached to various objects to expose their hidden resonant spirits.  Essentially an improvised, experimental, complex system, the performers, artists and public will collaborate in the continuous evolution of an ever-shifting soundscape.

Political Movements by the Minotaurs with Janet Johnson dancers

The Joshua Abrams Natural Information Society

The bands performances are both hypnotic and propulsive, riding on top of the wave rather than trying to find a resolution. It centers around new compositions for the guimbri, a Gnawa instrument traditionally used for trance and healing ceremonies.  The performance will feature Emmett Kelly on guitar, Mikel Avery on drums, Lisa Alvarado on harmonium and percussion and Joshua Abrams on guimbri.

Song for Others by Ehryn Torrell Annelore Schneider

In 2011, Ehryn Torrell (Guelph, ON/London, UK) and Annelore Schneider (Geneva, CH/London, UK) developed a collaborative residency project that explored ideas of home, intimacy, and vulnerability. Through planned public events, the artists created Song for Others, a sound piece produced from over 65 recordings of Guelph residents "singing for someone else."

Ovens of Fire & Myth by Jessica Steinhauser & Ryan Price

German Canadian ceramicist Jessica Steinhauser modifies European ideas for a North American context. For this exhibition, Steinhauser reimagines and repurposes the kachelöfen, the ceramic wood-burning ovens that have heated European homes, large and small, for more than 500 years. Her new kachelöfen depicts graphite drawings by Guelph artist Ryan Price and has a contemporary, stainless steel door.

Day to Day Music 'Boxes' by Jane Bunnett with Give Yourself Credit

The students at GYC have partnered with juno-award winning improviser Jane Bunnett and Guelph musician Amadeo Ventura to create an original piece of music. Over a series of four workshops taking place throughout spring of 2011, the students collaborated with Jane and Amadeo to create the original song Day to Day.  The song is hidden in found objects, located throughout downtown Guelph.

Shard by Portal Dance Project

"This Side of Light" explores our notions of light and how and when we crave its heat, power, sight. It is set on six fantastic, dynamic dancers and will be accompanied by musician, James Gordon. The excerpt is called "Shard" and deals with dark shards of memory or experience. It is a physically charged, emotionally driven section that uses the wall as a comfort, magnet and place of explosion.

Stare by Dawn Matheson

Stare will feature four living human hosts (How rare in this Facebook age of the digital gaze! How intimate!) available to the public for individual silent staring sessions.
