John Kameel Farah

Brampton-born and Berlin-based composer-improviser John Kameel Farah is a singular exponent of keyboard-based instruments, including piano, harpsichord, and various synthesisers. His extraordinary musical scope combines elements of Renaissance, Baroque, and Contemporary Classical repertoires, Middle-Eastern musical traditions, and forms of electronic music, and his solo performances – often involving several acoustic or electronic keyboards as well as a laptop – are orchestral in magnitude and structural elaboration while being based, fundamentally, in open improvisation. It will be a particular treat, then, to hear John’s magisterial musical vision in two contexts: A combination of electronics and the splendid Cassavant pipe organ at St. George’s Church, one of the finest organs in Southern Ontario, part of a ‘pipe-themed’ double-bill with the Breton bagpipe virtuoso, Erwan Keravec, as well as an intimate harpsichord solo.
