Crispell plays three concerts at Festival‏

Marilyn Crispell - a trio of treasures

Dubbed "one of a very few pianists who rise to the challenge of free jazz" by the New York Times, Marilyn Crispell is gracing us with her talented presence three times at this year's Guelph Jazz Festival. She has performed and recorded extensively with stars of the American and international jazz scene. Be sure to hear her in at least one of these performances:

Crispell teams up with the three other masterful improvisors who joined her a few years ago at John Zorn's New York club in The Stone Quartet. As a group, they create world-class, original contemporary music. As individuals, you'll see them shine in their own right. See French bassist and vocalist Joëlle Léandre, violinist/violist Mat Maneri, and trumpeter/flutist Roy Campbell Jr. join Crispell on stage for a performance to be remembered.

Thurs., Sept. 10, 8PM
St. George's Anglican Church, Sanctuary
Tickets: $20/$15

Crispell has played with a veritable who's who of the jazz world, as this performance illustrates. She joins tenor saxophonist Fred Anderson and drummer Hamid Drake, two of Chicago's most extraordinary musicians, for what will surely be an incredible collaboration in Crispell/Anderson/Drake.

Fri., Sept. 11, 8PM
River Run Centre, Main Stage
Tickets: $30/$25 (double-bill with Woodchopper's Association)

In 2006, Ottawa bassist John Geggie created The Geggie Project by inviting Marilyn Crispell to collaborate with him and Nick Fraser, one of Toronto's leading drummers. Together, they showcase thoughtful writing and beautiful improvisations. Not to be missed.

Sat., Sept. 12, 8PM
River Run Centre, Main Stage
Tickets: $35/$30 (double-bill with World Saxophone Quartet)
