Jane Bunnett and the KidsAbility Youth Ensemble (Ontario)

Award-winning saxophonist Jane Bunnett is back, but this time with the Guelph KidsAbility Youth Ensemble, a group of young musicians from the Guelph Chapter of KidsAbility Centre for Child Development, an organization that aims to help children and young adults with developmental, physical and communications disabilities. The Youth Ensemble enjoyed a rousing success last year at their debut performance and we're looking forward to seeing the magic that transpires when they join forces with Bunnett, one of Canada's most accomplished jazz performers.

Sat., Sept. 12, 11:30am

Michael Occhipinti's Sicilian Jazz Project (Ontario)

Sicily, much like New Orleans, the birthplace of Jazz, has been a cultural and musical crossroads, proving a rich and textured legacy that has influenced many. In the 1950's, ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax recorded performances in Sicily which decades later would inspire Michael Occhipinti to create the Sicilian Jazz Project. Occhipinti's exceptional arrangements and the performances by his soloists and band will bring the songs to colourful Mediterranean life.

Sat., Sept. 12, 2:00pm

Rebel Rhythm (Ontario)

This is a band that always leaves them wanting more - Rebel Rhythm serves up their Afro-Cuban, electronic dance, and instrumental groove music with a spicy side of full-tilt ensemble drumming. It's energetic, fast and fun. Just be sure to bring your dancing shoes for this fiery six-piece band.

Sat., Sept. 12, 5:45pm

Jean Derome Évidence Trio + 3 (Quebec)

In the hands of Jean Derome (alto saxophone) Évidence Trio (Pierre Cartier [bass guitar], and Pierre Tanguay [drums]), the music of Thelonious Monk is shown in its best light - one that lets you enjoy the idiosyncratic harmony and wry humour of the arrangements, always aiming to de-centre the music in surprising and delightful ways. The "+ 3" refers to three special guests from Montreal's jazz scene: Gordon Allen (trumpet), Guillaume Dostaller (piano), and Tom Walsh (trombone).

Sat., Sept. 12, 7:15pm

Mr. Something Something (Ontario)

A little Afrobeat, a little jazz, a little James Brown-inspired funk rhythms - it all combines to give you Mr. Something Something, featuring frontman Johan Hultqvist. Their groovin' rhythm section and super-tight horn arrangements are all geared to get you up dancing and closer to the stage. Not only talented performers, Mr. Something Something is leading the way in ecologically conscious live music performance; their unique SoundCycle amplification system is powered entirely by bicycle generators! You got to see it to believe it.

Sat., Sept. 12, 10:45pm
