Art Auction, Annual Meeting, and new Guelph Music Series
1. A better than ever art auction, Sun. Apr. 25
Please save this date: Sunday, April 25, 2-6 pm. That's the afternoon for the 2010 Guelph Jazz Art Auction. New to this year's auction: a curated collection by art consultant Renann Isaacs (formerly of the Alma Gallery) featuring stunning works by emerging, mid-career, and established artists who are locally, nationally, and internationally recognized. Also new is a Silent Auction with a selection of some of the finest crafts from the area and beyond. See poster here for the line-up of artists who have generously donated their works.
Your ticket to the event includes two drinks and many delectable nibbles. Make your choices by previewing the artwork online, or viewing it in person at both locations of the Red Brick Café (starting Mar. 21). Bidding on a piece of art by a favourite artist, and actually getting it is exciting enough, but knowing you are greatly supporting the Guelph Jazz Festival by doing so makes it all the more enjoyable.

Where: The Bookshelf's Ebar, 41 Quebec St., Guelph, ON

2. Guelph Jazz Festival Annual Meeting (and concert!), Thurs. March 25
We're going to give our annual meeting a twist this year: as part of the meeting, we'll host a free concert of improvised music, featuring the Vertical Squirrels: an exciting new band featuring Jazz Festival Artistic Director Ajay Heble (piano) along with Daniel Fischlin (guitars and effects), Lewis Melville (bass) and Joe Sorbara (drums). Their music is group-improvised, live in the moment, and draws on a unique mixture of free jazz and post rock. The Annual Meeting at 7 pm will present the financial statements from last year along with a report by the president of the board of directors. Concert to follow. Please attend; members in good standing may vote at the AGM. Jazz Festival memberships can be renewed at the meeting!
