Guelph Jazz Festival art auction a major success

The Bookshelf's EBar was wall-to wall last weekend as 40 of the region's best-known artists contributed to their work to the Guelph Jazz Festival's Sounds Provocative Art Auction. The annual event, which took place April 25, hosted a live and silent auction generating over $30,000.  Funds raised will contribute to this year's festival, taking place Sept. 8-12, 2010.

The volunteer-run event attracted approximately 150 art-enthusiasts and Guelph Jazz Festival supporters, including Mayor Karen Farbridge.

Organizers attribute the success to the availability of diverse pieces from established and emerging artists. Guests bid on a collection curated by art consultant Renann Isaacs (formerly of the Alma Gallery and Toronto's Isaacs Gallery). Notable artists who donated their work included Will Gorlitz, Stu Oxley and Cheryl Ruddock.

The event is one of many initiatives the Guelph Jazz Festival has planned to raise funds that will contribute to the longevity of the Festival in the city.

The Festival would like to thank the event sponsors and volunteer organizers who worked so hard to make the auction a success! Thank you!
