William Parker solo (USA)

William Parker

In this, the 25thAnniversary of the Guelph Jazz Festival, it is worth reflecting on the artists who have best exemplified its artistic goals and spirit over the years. Doubtless, any shortlist must include New York bassist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer William Parker. With rich and fond memories that include a rare performance by his In Order to Survive quartet in 2000, his Curtis Mayfield creative reimagining in 2007, and a sublime solo concert at dawn (for a small, sleepy assembly!) to wrap up the 2012 Nuit Blanche, to name just a few, Parker has contributed to the festival with grace, conviction, imagination, and generosity. We are delighted to present another morning solo set this year, and this one will be at a slightly more manageable hour at which to experience one of the major figures of contemporary creative music.

Saturday, 15 September, 10:30am, Royal City Church, $20/$15
