The Making Box presents Royal City Heroes: GJF Edition
1 PART CELEBRATION OF GUELPH
1 PART JAZZ SHOW
1 PART IMPROV COMEDY SHOW
Welcome to Guelph’s improv comedy show about Guelph. Each month The Making-Box highlights a unique Guelphite (or group of Guelphites) and create improv comedy inspired by them. This time we celebrate improvised music with improvised comedy as we’re joined by performers from The Guelph Jazz Festival and Colloquium.
OUR ROYAL CITY HEROES THIS MONTH: THE GUELPH JAZZ FESTIVAL AND COLLOQUIUM
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:
The Guelph Jazz Festival has consistently been praised by local, national, and international critics for its programming. The Festival strives to present music that reflects the world in which we live and to make it accessible to the broadest possible audience through concerts, educational initiatives, and free programs.
ABOUT THE COLLOQUIUM:
Hovering at the Edge: Words, Music, Sound, and Song is the theme of this year’s Guelph Jazz Festival Colloquium. Hosted by IICSI in partnership with the Guelph Jazz Festival, the University of Guelph, and the Art Gallery of Guelph, the Colloquium will feature curated panels, speakers, and performances, with participants riffing on the interplay among words, music, sound, and song. Including this very special comedy/jazz performance!
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS:
Jeff Wilson is a percussionist with over 20 years of experience accompanying modern dance and theatre productions. He has also provided drums for many world music and reggae outfits including Maza Meze, Jaffa Road The Liquidaires and Ensemble Polaris.
Tyler Wagler plays Bass and Guitar in a myriad of styles. He is a founding member of Friendliness and the Human Rights, Hammerton, Wagler and O’Neill, an in-demand instructor and a cornerstone of the local Jazz community.
Carey West improvises as a singer, a children’s music teacher and while researching her MA at U of Guelph. However, as the Coordinator of the Guelph Jazz Festival Colloquium she always conducts herself according to plan.
