Festival Art: Jesse Stewart, Timelines
Jesse Stewart on Timelines, this year’s festival image:
“Having performed at the Guelph Jazz Festival many times throughout its history, I am honoured that the Festival has chosen to use an image of mine to promote its 25th anniversary edition. Timelines (2011) consists of hundreds of clock hands mounted on a blank canvas. The use of “found objects” is one of the things that connects my work in the visual and sonic arts; engaging with different conceptions and representations of time is another. The radiating clock hands convey a sense of multi-directionality – not unlike the music that the Guelph Jazz Festival has featured over the past quarter century. Congratulations to the Guelph Jazz Festival on twenty-five years of extraordinary music, friendship, and community.”
