Chippewa Travellers (ON)
Chippewa Travellers, founded in 1998, are an Aniishinaabeg family drum group originally from Chippewas of Nawash, Cape Croker reservation (Neyaashingaming) on the eastern shore of the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula on Georgian Bay, but now reside throughout Southern and Central Ontario. They perform primarily Northern-style powwow music, featuring soul-stirring, soaring unison vocals driven onward by the insistent thump of the drum they collectively play. With Waseyasige: Shining Brightly (Tribal Spirit Music), Chippewa Travellers won the 2019 Indigenous Music Award for Best Traditional Powwow Recording. We are honoured to welcome them to Guelph.
