Kris Davis Facebook Broadcast, Friday 30 April

While the Guelph Jazz Festival is committed to and looks forward to a time when we can present live music more readily, we are partnering on this project convened by the National Arts Centre and the Canada Council for the Arts. New York-based Canadian pianist Kris Davis, who last performed at the Guelph Jazz Festival in 2015, is recording a one-hour solo at New York’s Jazz Gallery. A video of this music will be streamed on the NAC’s Facebook page as well as on the Facebook pages of eighteen Canadian music presenters, including ours. The video will be accessible here as of 8pm on Friday, 30 April, and will be available for 24 hours to follow.

Canadian pianist-composer Kris Davis was voted pianist of the year in the 2020 Downbeat Critics Poll and the 2019 Jazz Times Critics Poll. She won both composer and pianist of the year in 2020 by the Jazz Journalists Association. The New York Times has stated, “One method for deciding where to hear jazz on a given night has been to track down the pianist Kris Davis.”
