Amadeo Ventura’s Spoken Rhythms (ON)

Spoken Rhythms

Local percussionist, music educator, and community catalyst, Amadeo Ventura has developed this brand-new project for the ‘GJF in the Parks’ program. Spoken Rhythms: Discovering Improvisation, Rhythm, and Poetry explores the relationship between music and spoken word through rhythmic and tonal improvisations. Using Afro-Cuban percussion as a rhythm framework, spoken word artists will present their works as a framework to guide the group improvisation, which will be primarily rhythmic in nature. The project also features Ruben ‘Beny’ Esguerra, a composer, multi-instrumentalist, spoken word artist, arts educator, and community worker; Kevin Sutton, a writer, spoken word performance artist, workshop facilitator, communications professional, and community organiser; and Luis Orbegoso, a renowned percussionist, arranger, and producer.
