Staff Pick of the Week: David Lander on Bernice

David Lander, Market Square Manager, tells us who he’s most excited to see at the 2017 Festival:

“Every time I see Bernice I think, ‘Maybe I am remembering it wrong, Maybe they aren’t the best band in Toronto’ and, every time, their status as such is proven to be true again and again. Featuring some of Toronto’s best and brightest, Bernice are the whole package. While they merge elements of pop, chamber, EDM, improv, indie rock, jazz, and, certainly, R&B, Bernice makes music that goes beyond descriptors – this is music you need to hear, this is music you need to feel. Blending subtle yet complex vocal harmonies with oodles of rich musicianship to create a distinct beauty, Bernice will take you on a vast sonic journey before you even realize how far they’ve brought you. Do yourself a favor and catch them at the Guelph Jazz Festival and experience the blissfulness that is Bernice.”

Bernice plays twice on 15 September: Noon at Branion Plaza, University of Guelph, and 8pm at the Market Square Stage.
