Guelph Youth Jazz Ensemble (ON)

The Guelph Youth Jazz Ensemble has been a key incubator for young musical talent in the city for many years. Founded by local musician and educator Brent Rowan and now co-led by his colleague Tyler Wagler, the program has made its mark at the GJF with collaborations with notable visiting artists Marianne Trudel (2019), Joe Sorbara (2018), Christine Duncan and Jean Martin (2017), and many more. The pandemic has withered the program’s numbers, however, and there now remains a quartet of steadfast members who have ‘aged out’ of the program, now pursuing their musical and other professional interests as adults. They still perform regularly together, a hallmark of the program’s legacy, and the GJF is proud to feature them under their own leadership in 2022. Featuring Liam Newsom (keyboards), Oliver Smyth-Commodari (guitar), Noah Kidd (electric and double bass), and Emmitt Leacock (drums).
