Drums and horns! This Toronto ensemble shouts its global mix of funk, jazz, and folk music from the streets. The Libation Street Band boasts an unconventional orchestra featuring the syncopated double-drumming of long-time collaborators Dave Chan and Larry Graves alongside the soulful blowing of Marcus Ali (saxophones), Patrice Barbanchon (trumpet), and Jamie Stager (trombone). This edition of the group will showcase captivating melodies and infectious beats inspired by the Ghanaian folk songs, evoking distinct regions of the West African nation: The Highlife spirit and long-standing brass band tradition of the Volta, the cool Palm Wine era music of the Akan, and the mysterious cyclical rhythms of the Dagomba.
